01The Journey

Overview

The four-day Mount Meru trek follows the same dramatic route as the three-day, but adds a full acclimatisation day at Saddle Hut — giving your body time to adjust, and giving you time to explore the stunning crater rim, watch the cloud below, and savour the mountain before the summit night.

Recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy the mountain rather than rush it, or who is using Meru as a warm-up for Kilimanjaro. Your armed ranger guide keeps a watch for the buffalo, giraffe and colobus monkeys that share this park.

02Day by Day

The itinerary

A rhythm, not a schedule — every day flexes around what the bush is doing and what you feel like. This outline follows the route; your final day-by-day is confirmed when we tailor the trip.

  • Day 01

Momella Gate → Miriakamba Hut (2,514m)

Enter Arusha National Park with your guide and armed ranger. Trek through wildlife-rich forest to Miriakamba Hut.

  • Day 02

Miriakamba Hut → Saddle Hut (3,570m)

Steep climb through heath and moorland to Saddle Hut, with an optional afternoon climb to Little Meru (3,820m).

  • Day 03

    Acclimatisation Day at Saddle Hut

A rest day to adjust to altitude. Explore the crater rim area, watch Kilimanjaro appear through the clouds, and prepare for an early dinner before the midnight departure.

  • Day 04

Summit → Momella Gate → Arusha

Depart around 02:30am, reaching the summit at sunrise for panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and the Arusha plains. Descend to Momella Gate and return to Arusha.
